Up to ₹78,000 back on a home solar system.

The national rooftop solar scheme pays a fixed subsidy per kilowatt directly to the household. Here is exactly how much, who qualifies, and what you have to do. We handle the application as part of the installation.

How the subsidy is actually calculated

In plain words

How the subsidy is actually calculated

The subsidy is paid per kilowatt of capacity installed, in two bands. The first 2 kW attract ₹30,000 per kW. A third kilowatt attracts ₹18,000. Anything at or above 3 kW is capped at ₹78,000 in total — so a 3 kW system and a 6 kW system receive the same ₹78,000. A 1 kW system therefore receives ₹30,000, a 2 kW system ₹60,000, and 3 kW or more ₹78,000. For group housing societies and resident welfare associations there is a separate provision: ₹18,000 per kW for common facilities including EV charging, up to 500 kW, counted inclusive of individual rooftop systems already installed by residents of that society. Some special-category states attract an additional 10% per kW. The money is credited to the consumer after the installation is inspected and the net meter is in place.

Eligibility and process

What you need to know before applying

Who can claim it?

Residential electricity consumers. The scheme covers domestic connections, so a shop, office or factory connection does not qualify — the commercial and industrial case is made on tariff savings instead, not on subsidy.

What size system should I apply for?

The national portal publishes a guide: 1–2 kW for a household using up to 150 units a month, 2–3 kW for 150–300 units, and above 3 kW beyond that. Since the subsidy is capped at ₹78,000 from 3 kW upwards, going larger adds generation but not subsidy.

How do I apply?

Registration is on the national portal at pmsuryaghar.gov.in, using your registered consumer mobile number and your electricity consumer details. The system then has to be installed by a registered vendor, inspected, and fitted with a net meter before the subsidy is released. We are the ones who do that running around for our customers.

When does the money arrive?

After installation, DISCOM inspection and net metering are complete and the claim is processed. It is credited to the consumer — to the bank account provided, or where the system was financed through a loan, to the loan account under the current operational guidelines.

Is there a deadline?

Yes. The scheme is currently stated to close on 31 March 2027. Because installation, inspection and metering all have to be completed and not merely started, leaving it late is a real risk.

Can I take a loan for the rest?

Yes — the scheme is linked to bank finance through the JanSamarth platform, and where a system is financed, the subsidy is credited against the loan account. Your bank will confirm what you qualify for.

Do you charge for handling the application?

No. Registering the application, coordinating the inspection and completing the net metering are part of the installation for our customers.
